Monday, July 13

Rosa had requested that we return to a restaurant, Restaurante Picatoste, we'd been to for lunch during April vacation.  It's in the pedestrian only section of town near our apartment.  On the way we walked by the fine arts museum with the intention to check it out, only to learn that it's closed on Mondays.  We'll likely try to go there another day.  The kids have fond memories of the Art Museum in Denver and so they'd like to check out this one.

From there we walked by a store where I've already bought 2 sundresses.  I got lucky and found a 3rd that I liked, after trying on a load of them.  The kids were patient with this activity.

After lunch (pasta and pizza for them and salmorejo for me) we walked down the street with the intention of going grocery shopping at El Corte Ingles.  But, Rosa surprised me by saying she was ready to get her hair trimmed.  It was ready.  We returned to the place where we'd had our nails done and she had her hair washed, trimmed, and blown dry.  It looked lovely.  Unfortunately my phone camera had been acting up and none of the pictures came out.

We did then make it to the grocery store in the basement of El Corte Ingles to buy fish, mini hamburgers, and other necessities and wants before we returned home to much-needed air conditioning.

That evening was our last Spanish class with Antonio.  He's swamped with work the rest of this month and then on vacation in August.  We're super grateful for all that he's taught us.

The last class included blowing up balloons, drawing faces on them, and making a character for the balloon head.  Then we were to introduce ourselves to the balloons and have conversations in Spanish.  Here's Cody drawing on his orange balloon.

And Devon.

And Rosa - with Antonio's arm to the side.
After class we ate fish for dinner (Hake is our favorite here) and then I went to a pilates class at 9pm, a crazy late time for me to be doing anything but sleeping.  And, it was a redcord class - a high intensity pilates-like workout.  On the way home via Plaza de la Gavidia, I ran into the mom, Maria Luisa, of Devon's bff from school, Clara.  They were back from vacation.  We talked about setting up a playdate later in the week.

Meanwhile, back at the apartment, Scott and the kids watched part of "The Sound of Music".  While it's a great movie, it's too long for the boys to sit for it all at one time, so we're re-watching it in chunks.
