Saturday, June 6 - Paris day #3

Finally the day of Eiffel Tower tour had arrived.  We first went to a bakery and tea house for breakfast called Paul.  We all enjoyed the various baked goods and pastries.  From there we walked to the Arc de Triomphe and hopped on the tourist bus for the second day in a row.  Our first time taking one of these busses was in Barcelona, and we'd had a fabulous experience.  The same was not true of the bus in Paris.  But, it did take us to the Eiffel Tower on the road vs. underground.

It had been a lot of research to get tickets to the tower (vs. standing in line for hours).  We'd researched them well over a month before our visit, but they were already sold out for the 4 days we'd be in Paris.  Then we tried finding resellers, and the only possible tickets were on Saturday at 4:30pm.  So, we had time to spare before heading up.

There are 100+ pictures from this day.  And it appears that they're on the blog all out of order.  I'll leave them like this, but start off with a highlight of the days activities.

  • Breakfast at Boulangerie Paul on Rue Lebon (a pedestrian street near the apartment)
  • Walk to the Arc de Triomphe
  • City Sightseeing bus to the Eiffel Tower
  • Mystery Ride - boat ride on the Seine River on Bateaux Parisienes
  • Lunch at a tourist spot by the Eiffel Tower
  • Going up in the Eiffel Tower - to the very top, then to the 2nd floor, then to the 1st floor
  • More on the tour bus (with no room up top and no AC downstairs with windows that wouldn't open)
  • Metro back to our neighborhood
  • Thai for dinner at a lovely restaurant in our neighborhood - Lotus de Thai

We started by walking under the tower and over to the park behind it.  The park reminded me of the mall in DC.  The kids all bought a little trinket from a souvenir stand.  Rosa and Cody chose keychains to hang on their backpacks and Devon chose a pen with 3 different colors.

And then it was time to play at a playground.

Always fun.

Thanks to the Cohen's and then the Green's, Rosa has had this Eiffel Tower shirt for years.  And now it was the perfect time to wear it.

On the boat.  We had 5 seats in a row on the outside.  They were wonderful seats for our hour-long journey.

Listening to the handset to learn more about what we were seeing.

Our boat was with the company Bateaux Parisienes.  It was coupled in with our bus tour.
