Up until now I've tried to not to talk too much about the weather here so far. But, it does deserve mention. We joke in Denver that if you don't like the weather, wait a day and it'll change. Here, the same could be said, but wait an hour. We've had 60 degree days and rain followed by 90 degree days and sun and then back again. And at night it can drop into the 40s. In other words, there seem to be huge fluctuations in temperature.
So, this Monday, the first day back to work and school after a very nice week off (or 4 days off in Scott's case), we had weather to contend with and darkness. The sun rises a bit before 8 now that Spain has also sprung forward with the clocks, yet we wake the kids around 7. Rather, we try and wake the kids around 7. Scott helped with breakfast and then he scooted off to the base. Due to the rain, there was a lot traffic and it was slow going to get to the highway. Usually it's easy.
The thunder continued to boom and scare the kids and I wondered how we'd get to school without fear consuming everyone. Luckily, the thunderstorm subsided just as we left the apartment complex.
Yet, it was still slow going with the 3 umbrellas squeezed amongst the tiny streets.
By lunchtime you'd never know that it had rained as it was gorgeous outside and close to 90 degrees. Our American friends met us at school and we walked a few blocks down the main road to a hamburger place we wanted to try, The Good Burger, TGB. Cody had a hamburger that he loved. And Rosa and Devon enjoyed their hot dogs so much that they each had seconds. And I was thrilled to be able to order a fresh salad. The food here is great, but it's hard to find veggies on the menu. And if they're found, they're often fried and/or with some sort of mayonaise sauce. Like I said, they're yummy, but not necessarily fresh.
After dropping the kids at school for their afternoon classes, I stopped into El Corte Ingles and checked out "The Gourmet Experience" on the top floor. It's like an upscale food court and it includes outdoor patio seating. Monday I just walked around. I'll probably go back another time to experience it with food and/or drink.
And then I went downstairs to buy some fish for dinner from the grocery store in the basement of El Corte Ingles. I also bought a set of 6 wine glasses (our apartment has loads of other glasses (champagne, etc., but not wine) and 4 more cereal bowls since we run the dishwasher due to lack of cereal bowls rather than it being full. I loved this sale rack!
The walk home from school was much easier than the walk to school, because it was dry.
After dinner we finished watching the movie we'd started watching the night before (Pocahontas II).
